Since my husband joined the military in 2008, we have moved 5 times. Since living together, we've moved a total of 7 times. This tells you several things; One, I suck at picking out neighborhoods. Two, I can drive a Uhaul. Three, I know how to set up a home after a move.
I believe it's a good idea to touch all those places that get messy right after you move. With more than one person unpacking, I didn't know where everything ended up. And neither did Paul. Or Isaac.
Which is how I had a huge fit last week because I couldn't find the stapler and ended up erratically freaking out about needing a mom break. Paul went to the office supply store and bought a new stapler. And brought home dinner so that I didn't have to cook. And took Isaac along with him. (I didn't marry him only because he's good looking.)
And while he was gone, I found the old stapler, stapled what I needed to staple, and calmed down.
Pregnancy hormones.... not all glowing and folding!
So I thought February would be an excellent month to re-touch all those places that get messy and make sure we were organized.
I did a home organizational challenge three years ago. This one, I'm going to actually put up a list and blog about each day. Oh, and since we just moved, I'm going to do it on a budget. Of zero. Yes, I intend to organize everything needed in our new home without spending any money.
Because maybe it will help someone else who needs to "reset" their house after moving?
Or maybe I have too much free time. Tough to say.
Some of that organization from two years ago is still in place. Having spent about five hours cleaning out from under our master bathroom sink really came in handy after moving, because I had an idea of where I wanted everything to be. That's especially good when movers dump everything that was in your bathroom in a large box, and then pack all your plastic bins in a separate box with items that were not even in the same room.
Like kid toys.
And then the bins your kid toys were with end up with other random things.
Like towels.
Moving is fun.

My husband is in the Air Force so I've done the moving thing too. I try to stay organized but it doesn't always go that way.
ReplyDeleteI always think moving is going to be my big fresh start. It never is.
ReplyDeleteMaybe some day.
