Give away something every day?

When we lived in Killeen, I had a love/hate relationship with freecycle. I love getting rid of things I no longer wanted, and I loved seeing people get really excited about things I was giving away. But I hated the 'gimmies' that people seemed to get (ie: WANTED: Plasma TV) and people not showing up when they said they would to get something, and then getting upset when they contacted you two weeks later and you told them you gave it to someone else.

I didn't realise when we moved that we'd be on a new freecycle list. But I discovered that right before Christmas. And I have at much better luck with this freecycle.

I have freecycled:

firewood
mirrors
mirrors
mirrors (don't ask)
bathroom cabinets
AND
Da da da DAAAAA
a SHED!

Yes, someone came and pryed up, with HAND TOOLS, my hugemongus, ugly, rusty, 10X12 aluminum shed.

And thanked me for it.

Yes, I know he is going to take it someplace and get cash for the scrap metal. But I had no desire to do the work and was super excited to find someone who wanted to. He earned that money, as far as I am concerned.

And I discovered that, without the shed there, the sunlight from sunrise reflects off the windows of the house behind me and can be enjoyed from both the east and west windows of my house.

And common sense tells me I cannot really give away something a day. I don't have that many unwanted items. Maybe one thing a week for the 2012 year? I think that is doable!

  1. I love getting rid of stuff that I don't need/want anymore! The people who come get that stuff as the shed are DEDICATED! lol
