When we bought our house, there were a few things we knew we'd be changing about the house. They were obvious. And the guest bathroom was one of the worst. I HATED the wallpaper. And it was carpeted.
Which I thought was a poor choice of flooring for a bathroom.
And now that I have ripped up carpet from a bathroom, I am going to say with the utmost confidence...
CARPET IS A POOR CHOICE FOR A BATHROOM!!
If you have it in your bathroom, rip it up. Right now. You can come back and finish reading my post tomorrow. Go do it now. Your carpet is probably wet around the edges and rotting all the wood it touches. Because it was in our bathroom.
I still need to paint the vanity, but you can see our beautiful (free!) tile in place. The lighter wood under the vanity is the new kickplate that had to be replaced because the old one was rotted from the carpet getting wet and just letting that moisture SIT on it. Ew.
Double Ew.
I had to clean all around where the carpet was. I will say it again.
DO NOT CARPET YOUR BATHROOM!
I changed the light fixture myself! Isn't it nice? Again, the medicine cabinet and the doors/trim still need paint. But look at the difference in the paint color versus the flowered wall paper. What a difference!
I had removed this cabinet over the toilet originally because it was very crooked and had intended to put it back. But when I saw how much more open the whole bathroom looked without it, I decided to go with glass shelves instead.
Our new base trim. It has a little extra detail, which is nice. We intend to change our carpeted living, dining, and hall to wood floors and will change the rest of the trim out then, too.
There you have it! One of my projects nearly checked off the list! The vanity will get painted the same time I paint the kitchen cabinets, so it will be a little while on that.

Good job really all by yourself ?!! I am just not that talented or focused! lol It looks great!
ReplyDeleteWOW AWESOME JOB!!! You are so inspiring to me, seriously. Big projects scare me because I'm afraid to learn as I go, and try to figure everything out ahead of time. So I just end up paralyzed by my research.
ReplyDeleteShould I already know the story of the free tile? Did you lay it yourself?
BTW, I had carpet in my KITCHEN in my first house. At least it was the "all purpose room in a church" kind, and not fuzzy, but still. Is stick-on linoleum tile that much more expensive or harder to install? Seriously people. Areas with water and/or food do not mix well with carpet!
I am so impressed that you did that all yourself!! Whoever thought carpet in a bathroom was a good idea should be shot!
ReplyDeleteLovely! Def digging the glass shelves. Was also going to tell you, if you ever need help with woodworking or projects around your house, my hubs does that. Just let me know and I'll send him over!
